Reborns are expensive

The reborn hobby is an expensive one. Even a “budget” reborn baby is going to cost $200 and of course, the price goes up drastically from there. I’ve seen a silicone reborn doll listed for over $15,000!! The cost of a reborn baby is enough to make this hobby out of reach for many.

Why do reborns cost so much?

The making of a reborn doll is a true art form. The time it takes to make a single doll, combined with the cost of all the materials and tools needed to make them, then add in the labor time, is why they are so expensive. Remember, these dolls are individually hand-crafted, one at a time by an artist. They aren’t mass produced in a factory with cheap materials and no uniqueness or true artistry to them. If you want a cheap doll, go to Walmart or Amazon. If you want a life-like baby doll, then find a reputable reborn artist and get a doll from them.

Can You Afford the reborn hobby?

I’ve seen this a lot in the reborn community – someone buys a reborn baby (not necessarily really expensive ones either) and they almost immediately put it up for sale because a bill was due. While there are certainly unexpected expenses that come up, I have yet to see a reborn doll sell for more than what they paid for the doll and more often than not, they sell it for. less. When you sell at a loss, you lose not only the baby you obviously want enough to spend the money on, but you lose money in the deal too.

You don’t need to be wealthy to get into the reborn hobby, but if you can’t pay your bills every month and any extra expenses at all means you would have to sell your reborn to cover it, then if it were me, I would postpone getting into the hobby until I had some type of savings set aside, so I didn’t have to sell my reborn baby at a loss. Only you know your personal financial situation and know if you can afford the reborn hobby.

Thankfully, I’ve finally reached the point in my life where I am able to enjoy filling my nursery with the reborns I want without worry about getting my bills paid. But I will say, that for me personally, there’s no way I could have gotten into this hobby years ago when my children were small. Now that my children are grown, I can fully enjoy myself and my babies too.
