There are three ways to buy a reborn doll:
Directly from the artist
Ask questions on what to expect with your buying experience. If you’re buying a custom doll, ask for a timeline to completion, shipping costs, etc… and of course, look at their previous work. Ask in private Facebook groups if anyone has worked with that particular artist. Also ask if their kits are authentic! That’s very important.
From a reputable website that sells authentic completed reborns
There’s only two websites that I’m aware of that do their due diligence in ensuring that only authentic reborn kits are used. Always check the sellers reviews on that site and reach out to them with any questions you may have, before you purchase. Also check their specific return/refund policy and any other details to ensure your transaction goes smoothly
From an individual collector
This can be the riskiest option, but can also provide a more cost effective transaction. Always ask the seller for references from previous buyers. Check within private Facebook groups for any warning signs that this person isn’t legit. Ask to see photos of the baby, including a safety photo that includes the sellers name, date, and a specific phrase that you give them, to try to ascertain if they actually own the doll they are selling. Or better yet, request a short video with specific information mentioned. Ask if they have the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) and any other details on the baby (such as boo boos) you want to know.
